Be/Non

The history of Be/Non‘s ever-evolving sound can be traced through its ever-changing wardrobe choices: tartan pajama pants in the early ’90s, flannel shirts and Tevas a few years later, trucker hats and geek glasses after that, ironic metal poses in 2001, and hip-hop headgear last year. Currently, the chameleonic act sports normal-guy rockwear and plays high-IQ melodipop with a dose of cathartic energy. No, Be/Non is not a band of trend-hopping wanna-bes; these dedicated followers of fashion just like to mix things up a bit. The Lawrence-based outfit is masterminded by multi-instrumentalist frontman Brodie Rush, who has remained the group’s sole center of gravity through seven releases, thirteen lineup changes and more stray members than a gay-porn flick. Rush’s here-today, gone-five-minutes-from-now cast of supporting characters has included members of Jumbo’s Killcrane, Onward Crispin Glover and the Flaming Lips.
