Beerport

Social mores might discourage the overconsumption of alcohol. But if you’re indulging in the name of charity, does that mean you get a free pass for any ridiculousness that ensues if the hops go to your head? To the well-intentioned drinkers we’ve seen this happen to, we say no. Fortunately, Westport — the site of KC BeerFest — offers plenty of options for soaking up the suds. Burgers, gyros, pizza and fries are all recommended for anyone attempting to swig from the 200-plus brews available for tasting between 1 and 5 p.m. Admission to KC BeerFest is $25 in advance or $30 at the gate. The event benefits two nonprofit organizations: the Kansas City Free Health Clinic and the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City. See kcbeerfest.com for tickets and an alphabetical listing of everything scheduled to be on tap.
