Bedroom Walls

“Kathy in Her Bedroom” by Bedroom Walls, from All Good Dreamers Pass This Way (Baria):
Los Angeles band Bedroom Walls has mastered the art of the song title. Among the most evocative: “In Anticipation of Your Suicide,” “If the Storm Breaks and You’re at Home,” “There’s Nothing to See in the Morning Light,” “Succession of White Days,” and “I’ve Been Thinking a Lot About Dots on the Wall.” You almost don’t need to play the Walls’ albums to get the idea. Almost. Adam Goldman and Melissa Thorne call their music “romanticore,” but that label doesn’t do justice to the group’s exquisite craft. Last year’s lush All Good Dreamers Pass This Way is a parchment origami of wide-ranging pop influences, all bright melodies, overcast arrangements and grown-up feelings. Even the tambourine sounds like it’s shaking from loneliness. Shake it does, though, and so does the music. This first KC visit from the band is the week’s secret don’t-miss show.
