The Wild Men of Kansas City formed early this year as a fill-in for the Wild Women of Kansas City when the double-booked divas couldn’t perform a scheduled gig. When the Blue Room’s management called bandleader
Everette DeVan for backup, he was able to round up some of the city’s finest jazzmen — Horace Washington, Kent Means, Danny Rojas and Matt Hopper — to pick up where the women left off. “The name just kind of stuck,” DeVan says. See the Wild Men from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. when they perform their monthly show at the Blue Room (1616 East 18th Street, 816-474-2929). The quintet works a set that includes jazz, blues and R&B standards, all in classic KC fashion. Arrive early because seats fill up fast. Tickets cost $10.
