Be My Valentine

Owner and curator Tom Deatherage of the Late Show Gallery (1600 Cherry, 816-474-1300) opens his annual Valentine’s Day show with an all-star lineup of up-and-coming area artists. “It’s called Be My Valentine,” Deatherage says. “It’s a group show featuring Linda Sackin, Jesse Christopher, Lori Erickson, Doug Schwietert, Travis Pratt (who got four nominations for the Charlotte Street awards), Asheer Akram and Nora Othic. I call ’em ‘the usual suspects.'” Frequent contributors to Late Show exhibits, the artists are favorites of the sharp-eyed Deatherage. He acknowledges the prevailing economic climate and the possible disinclination to buy art instead of food: “Times are tough, so we’re opening with reasonably priced work, stuff priced to move,” he says.
