B-Cycle bike-sharing program is wheeling into KC right now
It’s wheels-up this morning for a bike-sharing program organized by Bike Walk KC and sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. Volunteers are riding 90 bicycles over the Heart of America bridge to Ilus Davis Park, where Mayor Sly James and city officials will be holding a press conference to kick off the start of B-Cycle.
The 90 bikes will be housed at 12 stations (elaborate docks powered by solar panels) sprinkled throughout downtown between the River Market and Crown Center. Anybody with a credit card (daily memberships are $7 and yearly memberships are $65) can then use the bikes for short trips around the city. The bikes are expected to be installed and available by 2 p.m. today. A list of the 12 stations can be found here.
