Nelson-Atkin Museum of Art is set to bring back their Bark in the Sculpture Park September 7 for pets and owners to meet, mingle, craft, and drink craft beer at the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. This free event will be open to all, but those who register ahead of time will be entered in a raffle to win prizes from local, dog-focused businesses including a pet’s birthday party at Bar K.

“I think people like to have an excuse to bring their dog to the Nelson lawn and meet with other dog owners while having some drinks from our sponsor, Tito’s,” Nelson-Atkins Development Manager Noelle Talbot says. “There are always so many dogs to see, and it’s been a lot of fun in the past.”

Keep your high-energy husky busy with various yard games and a scavenger hunt, or, if your pet is more on artistically inclined, they can create a masterpiece at the peanut butter puppy painting station set up by the Friends of Art Council. By wrapping a plastic bag dotted with peanut butter over a canvas, the dog can spread the paint in their own unique lick pattern, creating a personalized souvenir.

While dogs can enjoy all these pet-themed festivities, owners have the chance to sample pup-tails made with Tito’s vodka or beer samples from City Barrel Brewing and Vine Street Brewing. Full drinks and snacks will be available for purchase, and Shake Shack is providing a free treat for every dog. Those looking for a first, or next member of the family, can also adopt a puppy from the KC Pet Project’s booth for the entirety of the event. Whether the dog is a budding artist, a high-energy hound, or simply wants a free treat, Bark in the Sculpture Park has something for every pet and their human. Register for free here!
