Bar Spotlight: Qudos

Just a block and half north of the Power & Light District is an altogether different nightlife experience. Specializing in grown-up and sexy delights, Qudos Cigar and Cognac Bar (1116 Grand, 816-474-2270) is owned and operated by KC natives David Lux and Windell Fields Jr., who say their establishment is an example of the “new millennium of cigar bars.” Open Monday through Saturday, Qudos primarily serves a 30-and-older crowd, which comes to indulge in upscale pairings (a 10-year-old Rocky Patel Edge Maduro with a glass of Camus Borderies XO, anyone?) and to enjoy the silhouette dancers above the back of the bar. “It’s an alluring visual effect, like the Shadow Bar in Vegas,” Lux says. Qudos also has free Wi-Fi, a full kitchen that serves lunch (and stays open until midnight on the weekends), happy-hour specials and some of the most cush leather chairs downtown — perfect for curling up with a signature Sex on Grand martini or a taste of Johnny Walker Blue Label.

Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: Dec. 15. Continues through April 3, 2009
