Nationwide, the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in women is one of the diseases they fear most: breast cancer. Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, money is still needed for research and for getting the word out about preventive measures. (Note to scientists: We’d especially welcome further research showing that antioxidant-rich foods such as dark chocolate and red wine can assist in the prevention of cancer.) The goal of funding breast cancer research brings various local blues artists together tonight for the Sisters of Soul Blues Review at Blayney’s (415 Westport Road, 816-561-3747). Lending their voices and sass to the cause will be Cotton Candy, Mama Ray, Shannon Basham, ZZ Rose and others. The concert lasts from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Admission costs $7, and proceeds benefit breast cancer research.
