Bad news for the Kansas City Star

Looks like Aaron Barnhart’s fears might be realized. The Associated Press says The Kansas City Star’s parent company, McClatchy, lost $21.7 million in the fourth quarter and “plans deep costs [sic] cuts this year.”

There’s more: “McClatchy also warned Thursday it plans cost cuts of $100 million to $110 million this year. It didn’t say how much, if any, would come from layoffs.”

McClatchy Watch is also floating the idea of unpaid furloughs.
