It’s safe to say that when it came time for the old name-that-band game, Aveo didn’t dub itself after a little Chevrolet deathtrap. If the Seattle trio did name itself after a vehicle, it would need to evoke something with understated style, durability and power. But who the hell wants to name his band Ford Taurus anyway? Instead, Aveo was christened after the Latin word meaning I desire. And apparently what Aveo desires is perky, melodic pop laced with yearning melancholy. The kind of emotional flotsam and earnest jetsam one might expect to be floating in the waters of Barsuk Records, home to Nada Surf and Death Cab for Cutie. Aveo’s second album, Battery, also is good news for people who love Modest Mouse’s Good News for People Who Love Bad News. The Seattle neighbors share a producer (Phil Ek) and draw from a like-minded trough of indie-pop flowing in from Puget Sound, which, come to think of it, isn’t such a terrible band name itself.
