Avalanche

Name a critically acclaimed rock band formed in Scotland in the mid-1990s. You are totally thinking of Belle and Sebastian, you music snob. But don’t forget Snow Patrol, which once shared a label and fans with those mega-darlings of the ironically unironic fitted-sweater-and-argyle-socks crowd. Earlier in their careers, both bands earned high marks from music aficionados yet didn’t exactly move massive amounts of albums. But then Snow Patrol landed on major label Polydor and broke out in 2003 with Final Straw, a sweeping alt-rock record with multi-platinum appeal. Since then, Snow Patrol’s cathartic love songs have found their way into loads of TV and movie soundtracks and onto satellite-radio and alt-station playlists. Tonight, the band performs at the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway, 816-753-8665). Chicago nice boys the Plain White T’s will open. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $29.50.
