This month World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) held its annual, and highly successful, pay-per-view mega-event Wrestlemania on Sunday April 6th in front of a sold out crowd of 75,167 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans. This year was the WWE’s 30th edition of this event dutifully named Wrestlemania XXX and featured many surprises for wrestling fans watching the event which averaged $160, the cheapest in four years.

What made this such a stunning result is the fact that the Undertaker had gone 21 consecutive Wrestlemania’s without losing with the streak had become part of Wrestlemania lore. When he finally lost to Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania XXX fans were in a state of disbelief and making this years Wrestlemania one for the history books.

Next year Wrestlemania 31 will take place at the newly constructed Levi’s Stadium, home to the San Francisco 49ers in nearby Santa Clara. Fans looking to make the journey to the biggest event in all of wrestling will find tickets in the neighborhood of $300 on average for Wrestlemania tickets as over the past four year Wrestlemania has had an average ticket price of $299 on the secondary market, making it one of the most lucrative annual events. Additionally to drive this point home an economic impact study done on 2013’s Wrestlemania 29 at MetLife Stadium showed that the event brought in an estimated $101.2 million to the New Jersey/New York area; the second year in a row that it had an economic impact over $100 million.
