Alleged X-Box thief James Harris’ father accused of inquiring about where to buy an ‘untraceable’ gun and hire a hit man

Remember alleged X-Box thief James S. Harris? Neither do I, but the 18-year-old allegedly got a little stabby while trying to swipe an X-Box from a party in Platte County back in February, which didn’t go well (see above).

Now, Harris’ father, Stephen Harris, is in trouble for allegedly trying to pay a victim to “disappear,” inquiring about buying “an untraceable firearm” and wondering if anyone knows a good hit man.

Court records say 45-year-old Stephen Harris contacted a victim’s relative on June 15 to try to dissuade the victim from testifying against Harris’ son, who’s accused of stabbing a man and a woman after stealing their X-Box (was it even an X-Box 360?).  The relative also claimed to police that Stephen Harris had shown up in his backyard three weeks earlier. Harris supposedly wanted to talk to the victim and pay them off, offering up to $20,000 for the victim to just go away or maybe “change his story.”

Stephen Harris allegedly had other ideas about making the victim “disappear.” Court records say an acquaintance of Stephen Harris claimed that Harris wondered if he’d spy on some of the people in his son’s case and “keep them from going to court” and if he had time, “take people out.” Yikes!

The acquaintance must not have liked the idea because Harris also asked where he could find a “throw away” — “a cheap, untraceable gun.”

Stephen Harris is locked up in the Platte County jail on $25,000 cash bond. If he’s convicted, he could serve up to seven years in prison.
