All Night Radio

If you’re going to make an album to encapsulate the terrifying psychedelia of the ’70s, this is the way to do it. Spirit Stereo Frequency starts strong and ends strange amid an odd blend of distorted sound effects. And though All Night Radio’s full-length debut is well-crafted, it’s also filled with the kind of foreboding music that could send someone fueled by enough mescaline or blotter acid off a sixth-story balcony. There’s nothing particularly stirring about the band’s vocals, but tracks like “Daylight Till Dawn” and “We’re on Our Wave” will nonetheless get stuck in your head on an idle Tuesday and stay there through the end of the week. The album’s melodic beginning takes a sharp turn into echoed sirens, crying children and the vague sound of growling animals. It’s something that will stick with you, perhaps haunting your dreams with eerie flashbacks.
