Aim to Please

DAILY

If you’re in search of a cure for everyday anxiety, you could do a lot worse than visiting the Bullet Hole and firing off a few boxes of hot lead. The giant log cabin that houses the Bullet Hole sits in a quaint suburban neighborhood, the serenity of which is broken only by the pops of handguns being fired. Getting your gun on requires a yearly membership ($20), a range fee ($8) and — for those who wish to make casual use of their Second Amendment rights — gun rental ($5).

The range is massive, offering a few dozen shooting stalls. You can purchase traditional targets or make your own using a picture of your boss or your credit card bill.

Don’t feel like you have to go solo; with memberships available to all ages and a Ladies Day every Wednesday, the Bullet Hole begs to be included in family outings and first dates. It’s located at 6201 Robinson in Overland Park, right off Shawnee Mission Parkway, and is open from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. during the week, from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Field Days

College tracksters converge in Olathe.

THU-SAT

This weekend, 1,600 athletes from across the country will descend upon Johnson County with their javelins, shots, relay batons and sprinting spikes for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ National Track and Field Championship. This is the second year in a row that the competition has been in Olathe; new to the championship weekend is the Olathe Public Marathon and 15K, in which amateur runners follow the same route as NAIA athletes at the Olathe District Activities Center, 159th Street and Lone Elm Road. Preliminary events begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday; the marathon starts at 7 a.m. Saturday, with finals at noon. Single-day tickets cost $3 to $5, and three-day, all-event passes are $12. For more information, call 913-764-1050.— Sarah Smarsh
