A DECADE PAST

t’s been 11 years since Matthew Shepard was robbed, beaten with a .357 Magnum, tied to a fence and left for dead on a cold Wyoming night. A month later, Moisés Kaufman and the Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie in order to conduct interviews with the people who lived there. These interviews formed the basis of The Laramie Project, a journalistic-theatrical examination of a community in the wake of tragedy. Last year, the Tectonic Theater Project returned to Laramie to examine what had changed in the decade since Shepard’s death. The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later premieres nationwide tonight with simultaneous readings at more than 100 theaters. Locally, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre hosts the play in the Spencer Theatre on the UMKC campus (4949 Cherry, 816-235-2700). General-admission tickets are available at the door with a suggested donation of $15. Curtain is at 7 p.m.
