A Chain Reaction: Nuclear Weapons, Policy, and People

Since the end of the cold war, the Western hemisphere has lied awake late at night worrying about nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists, and generally losing a lot of sleep. Doctors recommend a combination therapy of Ambien and obstinately pretending everything is okay, but that treatment plan runs up against the wall of not actually doing anything to solve the problem.

Retired Lt. Gen. Robert Gard, chairman of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, and Dr. Ira Helfand, co-founder of the national Physicians for Social Responsibility, speak today on the subject of current nuclear non-proliferation measures and the potential humanitarian and environmental effects of a limited regional nuclear war (hint: they’re bad).
