When Megan Birdsall sings, you never know who might show up. Even as she prepares to release a new album from her Americana ensemble, MBird, her roots in jazz remain deep. Her exquisite, personal vision of the American songbook and her jazz-infused takes on contemporary pop make her a standout talent. Whether bounding with delight through “This Can’t Be Love” or bringing a longing intimacy to “Wichita Lineman,” Birdsall’s interpretations are smooth and distinctly her own. Friday night at the Blue Room, she’s joined by musicians from Kansas City’s jazz A-list: Steve Lambert on sax, Joe Cartwright on piano, Bob Bowman on bass and Tim Cambron on drums. She has invited others to drop by, so there’s no telling who else you’ll have a chance to enjoy.
