The No. 4 seed Kansas City Current opened the postseason in thrilling fashion Saturday afternoon at CPKC Stadium, taking down No. 5 seed Angel City FC (15-8-7, 52 pts., 5th place) 1-0 after extra time.

After the match entered the 30-minute extra period scoreless, forward Michelle Cooper fired Kansas City ahead from the penalty spot in the 96th minute following a foul committed inside the 18-yard box by Angel City. The Current withstood pressure through 120 minutes to take home a one-goal victory.

Saturday’s win sends Kansas City to the semifinal round of the 2026 NWSL Playoffs for the third time in franchise history. The Current will face the winner of tomorrow’s quarterfinal match between No. 1 seed Gotham FC and No. 8 Seattle Reign FC.
