Post Sex Nachos bring brand spanking new Big Bad tracks to Warehouse on Broadway this Friday
On Friday, October 30, Nashville-based indie rock band Post Sex Nachos will bring their Big Bad tour to Warehouse on Broadway. The quintet, made up of guitarist Mitch Broden, drummer Hunter Pendelton, lead vocalist Sammy Elfanbaun, keyboardist Jack Hazel, and bassist Chase Mueller, will bring a high-energy, costume-themed show to their Halloween Eve gig.
The tour follows their latest album, Big Bad, a 10-song envelope of poppy rock that feels like the soundtrack to a late-2010s coming-of-age film, released on September 18.
Sonically reminiscent of Boy Pablo, HUNNY, Phoenix, and OK Go, the album is nearly entirely upbeat, as they laugh in the face of adversity dished out by late-stage capitalism and lost love. Leading with the single “Sound of You,” Post Sex Nachos wanted their listeners to get attuned to their newest sound, a holistic take on what the album would sound like as they yearn for a former lover.
“Pop Tarts,” a collaborative effort with MARIS and Annelise Gonzalez, is an anthem for the system’s biggest ailments. Throughout the song, the band and their features have fun through the struggle, stick together through the worst, and pass a Pop-Tart around to survive. MARIS dreams of her name on a marquee and a fun, sexy party. In the meantime, they’ll stick to a strawberry icing on a jam-filled cracker and pray they can afford this month’s rent.
“The world’s built against creativity,” Elfanbaun says of “Pop Tarts.” “They don’t want to pay us, and that’s alright,” he adds on, sarcastically.
The album was produced by Aaron Wagner, whose band VEAUX opened for PSN on a former tour. Brodden remembers the trio “blew our socks off,” and they needed Wagner to produce their next record.
“There’s something nostalgic about the sound of the record that we really wanted to explore. We got experimental with instruments, just throwing stuff at the wall to see what worked,” Brodden says. “It wasn’t a rushed process, and we really spent our time with it. We spent six months going in the studio for two or three days a week. We crafted ten songs that ended up being a really cohesive project.”
They’re no stranger to a Kansas City show, debuting in 2022 at miniBar. Since then, they’ve played Madrid and Uptown a few times and headlined the late Boulevardia festival in 2024. As they packed for tour, they decided to stop at Joe’s for BBQ while visiting Elfanbaun’s family in the area, he sports a KC hat in the “All For You” music video.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show to begin at 7:30. The Foxies and Lawrence-based Limestone will kick the night off. You can purchase tickets here.
