Hutchinson residents seek to rename the city as Superman’s Smallville

No, Superman wasn’t from Hutchinson, Kansas. His alter ego, Clark Kent, was from the fictional town of Smallville — a distinction that several Hutchinson residents (and Superman fans) are hoping to change. Robot 6 has the story of Ben Eisiminger, KC McNeely and Christopher Wietrick, three Hutchinson-ites who have started a campaign to rename their small Kansas town.

The comic-book fans cite the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center (the place to store the shuttle that brought Superman as a baby to Earth) and the Kansas Underground Museum, which already has a Superman cape among its artifacts, as pieces of infrastructure that sit waiting for a new Superman focus. The trio has started a Facebook page, “Hutchinson, KS, should be named Smallville,” in an effort to attract the attention of Warner Bros. and generate some tourism dollars for Hutchinson.
