La Fetta expands its rockin’ sandwich stylings to Prairie Village with second location

Remarkable meals are at the heart of some of our strongest memories. Oftentimes, the most memorable meals are the ones that surprise us. Adam Bracco, the owner-operator of La Fetta Delicatessen, owes his livelihood to one such surprising meal.
He opened La Fetta about a year ago because of a chance encounter during a family vacation, and he has found such success in Kansas City that he’s already gearing up to open a second location.

“We were on a vacation in Montana, and we had a pretty packed day,” Bracco recalls. “We looked up places to eat that were nearby where we were staying, and found a sandwich spot called Tagliare that was just down the street. I knew nothing about it, just that it looked quick and I saw it had pretty good reviews. Let me tell you: It was a life-changing sandwich.”
Bracco means that literally—he had been in the corporate grind for many years and was looking for a change of pace. He reached out to Matt Benzel, the owner of Tagliare, and convinced him to partner up to open a satellite of Tagliare in Kansas City. Last year, La Fetta Delicatessen opened its doors at 143rd and Metcalf, sporting many of the recipes that had been perfected at Tagliare, along with a few of its own unique dishes.
“Our menus are about 80% the same,” Bracco says. “We knew there were some things we wanted to add to the menu, and a few things that we wanted to take off. But the heart of the menu is identical, and we’re just glad to be putting a Kansas City spin on a spot that meant so much to us.”
La Fetta’s sandwiches generally come on focaccia—though there are some exceptions—and feature top-quality ingredients and housemade sauces. There are a number of Italian deli favorites on the menu along with some more experimental and worldly options. But which are resonating with the JoCo (and beyond) audience?

According to Bracco, La Fetta’s top-seller is the Beach Boy. Essentially a gussied-up club sandwich with a spicy kick, it’s topped with bacon, turkey, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, avocado, onion, and a spicy garlic aioli. The Boss is also a big hit, packed full of flavorful Italian deli meats like soppressata and finocchiona and finished with “feisty” slaw and vinaigrette. His third recommendation is the Queen, a turkey and bacon sandwich with housemade pesto and balsamic glaze.
La Fetta isn’t just sandwiches, though.
Their signature side is a pasta salad, made with a recipe from Bracco’s wife’s family. The menu also features charcuterie if you’re feeling peckish, and classic Italian deli desserts like tiramisu and cannoli. A grocery section, featuring a number of imported and specialty ingredients, rounds things out to make La Fetta a one-stop shop for meals.
With how much success Bracco and his team have found with La Fetta, it was only a matter of time before they took a swing at a second location. Bracco plans to open the doors of La Fetta’s sister spot in Corinth Square, near 83rd and Mission, and they’re aiming for a mid-October opening.
Just like the south Overland Park location, La Fetta in Prairie Village will be open six days a week and closed on Sunday. If all continues to go well, Bracco says he already has a few sites in mind for future La Fetta locations.
Even though La Fetta has not been part of the Kansas City food scene for that long, Bracco says that the amount of support they’ve seen from the community has been overwhelming. “Our team is incredible. Our community is incredible. The amount of support we’re getting is unbelievable,” he says. “As a family, we’ve basically been in Kansas City our entire lives, and we still never expected to get the fantastic level of support we’ve seen. It’s a true credit to our team and to our home that La Fetta has hit the ground running as it has.”

La Fetta Delicatessen has two locations. Their original location is located at 14363 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66223, and their second location will open this fall at 3945 W. 83rd Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208. La Fetta is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
