News Bites: The Pitch Dessert Week: Half-price desserts are here! We love partnering with area restaurants and bakeries on our food weeks, but this one is extra sweet. Between fried Oreos and apple nachos, there’s something for every sweet tooth. I always recommend checking each spot’s hours before stopping by.

Maureen Remigio, yes, the spouse of Chiefs wide receiver Nikko Remigio, but a high-level athlete in her own right as a professional track star in The Philippines, has launched a cookbook. The Mau Mau House cookbook features Filipino-Chinese recipes, some of which you may have tried at one of her pop-ups that debuted last year. 

Closing

Le Champion: The Westport cafe from Amante Domingo will close after service on September 19. “I had two offers to buy my business, and I took them. I absolutely loved the time in Westport and look forward to seeing what’s next in the future. I’ve been calling around trying to place all of the employees into new jobs, and hope to get another restaurant open soon,” said Domingo in a statement to The Pitch.  

Blue Bird Bistro: In a social media post, Blue Bird Bistro announced that it will be closing. After 25 years, the local- and organic-focused restaurant has lost its lease on the charming corner spot in the Westside neighborhood. A closure date has not been announced, but don’t wait too long if you want to plan one last visit.

Lawrence Beer Co.: To celebrate its ninth anniversary, Lawrence Beer Co. is throwing an island-themed block party starting at 5 p.m. This free party is open to all ages and will feature live music, vendors, special edition merch, and two special beer releases.

September 19

Old Souls Tattoo: I bet you didn’t expect to see the winner of 2026 Best Tattoo Parlour listed in this column. They’re hosting a flash tattoo event to benefit Kanbe’s Markets, and the designs are a foodie’s dream. The event is free to attend from 12 – 8 p.m., with tattoos, lunch from Disco Burger, and beverages from Oddly Correct available for purchase. 

September 21

Sagebrush: Mirage Bar is popping up at Sagebrush in Rosedale, bringing playful cocktails as well as food from The Baker’s Allowance. From 5 – 10 p.m., stop by the cozy bar for cocktails, mocktails, and plant-based bites.
