Dish & Drink KC: Burger hopping in Crossroads
This week I was in the mood for a little handheld goodness, so burgers and sandwiches got the best of me. First stop: Cosmo Burger.
My daughter and I were already in the area and realized we’ve never been, so why not check it off our list of burger spots to eat at in KC?
I grabbed a burger with a gluten-free bun, 2 Beyond Meat burger patties, and topped my patties with grilled onions, pickles, and mustard. I also got tater tots on the side. Across the table, my daughter was craving something a little different. She went with their single cheese burger, a side of French fries, and a strawberry milkshake.
I totally overdid it with the second patty. One was more than enough, but my food was delicious! It’s giving McDonald’s before McDonald’s turned corporate. No, I wasn’t around for that, but I can wistfully imagine.
It is important to note a few things for other first-timers, though: number one: the fries and tater tots are shareable sizes. We barely scraped the top of each. We’ll be going with the tater tots only on our next visit. We liked those the best.
Number two: While they have a delicious vegan patty, they have no vegan cheese, vegan bread, or vegan sauce options aside from your traditional go-to’s like ketchup and mustard. So if you’re vegan, you may ask for a lettuce-wrapped patty instead of bread to make your entree actually vegan. Otherwise, you may have to skip this one.
My daughter’s food was a hit too. She doesn’t usually eat beef, but she said she’d do it again, and I think that means a lot.

Next up is the “new” kid on the block, Sauced.
Now, typically I check the menu for dropping in to most restaurants. Not this time. I really just walked in on a whim, ready to order whatever looked the tastiest.
I decided to go with an order of their seasoned fries and the Blackened: A grilled chicken sandwich that’s usually topped with a seasonal slaw, tomato, and garlic aioli. The toppings sounded like they’d really make my taste buds dance. But alas, they had to be removed. Not being able to eat dairy isn’t always the most exciting thing, as you can see.
Nevertheless, I topped the sandwich with grilled onions, lettuce, and pickles, and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The chicken alone is juicy and well-marinated. It’s bringing in big flavor, exactly as it’s supposed to. The switcheroo really allowed the meat to shine.
All that means to me is that the sandwich can only get better from there. Taking a bite of that with slaw, tomato, and garlic aioli would probably really set it off. Try it and tell me?
