This week's Kansas City restaurant news.

Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: While you’re stocking up for cookouts this weekend, consider grabbing a case of bottled water and dropping it off at one of the CoolKC heat relief donation spots. Your contributions quickly get moved to neighbors in need via support service providers and outreach team partners. Sunscreen and bug spray are also needed.

Opening

Social House: From the teams behind Good Karma Coffee and Orange by Devoured, a new bar is opening in Martini Corner. Social House is holding soft-opening hours July 2 – 4 from 5 – 11 p.m. and on Sunday, July 5, from 3 – 9 p.m. in the former Ludo’s space. What makes this new spot unique are the house rules: ages 25 and up only, and a call to actually be social. Also, it’s cashless.

Closing

Smoke Town BBQ: After six years of operating in Overland Park, Smoke Town BBQ has reportedly closed, citing personal circumstances.

July 3

Museum of BBQ: In celebration of Henry Perry Day, the Museum of BBQ has partnered with Prairie Fresh to offer free admission all day, as well as free ribs for the first 100 guests. From 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., admission is free, and at 1 p.m., Bernetta McKindra will be on site to talk about Perry, considered the Father of Kansas City barbecue, as well as the family’s foundation.

First Friday: Here’s a chance to soak up the energy of the city right now with something not fully soccer-themed. First Friday in the Crossroads will be hot and hopping. For example, five food and drink vendors will be at Made Mobb, the GoChew food truck will be at Mean Mule, Kata Nori has extended hours, and of course there are deals and vendors scattered throughout the downtown neighborhood.

July 4

Drastic Measures: At 2 p.m., Drastic Measures is hosting a Mario Kart tournament. The cost is $20, and no preregistration is required. Proceeds from tournament entry and cocktail sales will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters KC. The theme of the day is “Amaro Kart,” so cocktails will feature Fernet Branca. The bar will not be open normal hours on the holiday.
