Drink This Now: Daisy Carrot at Libations & Company
The year 1909 was eventful: the founding of the NAACP, the inaugural race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and General Motors’ acquisition of Cadillac were some major moments. Locally, then-mayor of Lee’s Summit, Todd George, completed the construction of a historic two-story building that now houses Libations & Company.
As a cocktail bar in 2026, Libations & Co. boasts many unique qualities. When you first step in, your gaze will quickly dart to the 26-foot Chesterfield sofa, accompanied by a trio of jade half-moon booths and a lush bar.
Libations & Co. offers a diverse and comprehensive drink menu with classic selections for the steady Eddies and house originals to intrigue the curious palate. Feeling ambitious during my visit, I stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered the Daisy Carrot ($16).
The mix of pineapple rum and amaro lends the Daisy Carrot a sweeter profile, while the splash of carrot juice brightens the drink and gives it a vibrant orange hue. As a carrot lover myself, this drink felt like an ode to good health — one that would make my mother proud, especially when she reminds me to eat my vegetables.
I took my drink upstairs, where Libations & Co. runs its intimate and cozy music hall: The 1909 Club. This club hosts live music every Wednesday through Saturday, with shows centered around blues, jazz, R&B, soul, and funk. The acoustics in the hall are superb. During a set break, the performing guitarist confirmed what our ears heard when he remarked on the impressive quality of the sound equipment.
The feeling I left with was that the Libations & Co. team is infatuated with details. The great service, unique furniture, drink menu, quality sound equipment, and caliber of musicians come together to make for a lovely night out, whether alone, with friends, or on a date night. Libations & Co. has ensured that Todd George’s building continues to stand the test of time as a community institution, even after 117 years.
Libations & Company and its 1909 Club are at 25 SE 3rd St, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063.
