Dish & Drink KC: Clean eats and comfort bites in Westport and Parkville
The countdown to 2026 is underway, and while many of us have moved beyond the tired “new year, new me” mindset, the focus on health and wellness remains prevalent. It’s just become more intentional. More realistic. Less about restriction, and more about nourishment.
That’s why it’s always helpful to have a mental shortlist of local spots doing wellness right, like Gigi’s Vegan + Wellness Cafe—a go-to for clean, organic options that don’t feel boring or obligatory.
I originally stopped by for something simple: a juice. Light, refreshing, easy. Instead, I left with a jar of their TruLove juice ($11), enough mullein leaf to make two full gallons of tea ($8), and two of the most delicious vegan and gluten-free brownies I’ve had in a long time. And that was after sampling three other organic cold-pressed juices: the Heartbeet, CellFood, and Vitality.
Let’s start with TruLove, because it’s truly obsession-worthy. Made with apple and ginger root, it’s proof that simple ingredients can still deliver big flavor. The apple brings a natural sweetness, while the ginger adds a bold, warming kick that lingers just enough to feel invigorating without overpowering the drink. As a self-proclaimed ginger girly, this one hit immediately.
CellFood was my second standout. A blend of kale, apple, lemon, and pineapple, this juice is mineral-rich and beautifully balanced. The kale provides an earthy base, but it’s softened by the brightness of lemon and the gentle sweetness of pineapple and apple. No single ingredient dominates, which makes it especially approachable for anyone new to raw or green juices. It tastes clean, fresh, and surprisingly smooth. Nothing intimidating about it.
And then there were the brownies. Dense, rich, and deeply chocolatey, they strike that rare balance where you forget they’re vegan and gluten-free altogether. I was really impressed by how indulgent it felt while still aligning with an ingredient-focused lifestyle.
Finally, the mullein leaf tea. This leaf is traditionally known for helping soothe the throat, loosen and clear mucus, and reduce inflammation throughout the body. It’s commonly used during colder months or seasonal changes, especially by folks looking for gentle, plant-based ways to support lung health. And since I’m still trying to get rid of this lingering cough I’ve had, I thought this would be the perfect addition to my healing toolkit.

Next time you find yourself in the Northland with a craving for tacos, do yourself a favor: head to downtown Parkville, walk into K‑Tacos & More, and settle in.
Their menu is packed with Mexican staples you already love: tacos, burritos, fajitas, and more, and they’re not holding back on quality or flavor. Plus, the menu isn’t overcomplicated or congested. It’s easy to spot a favorite or something new and place your order without anxiety.
I ordered two tacos, a shredded chicken taco and a steak taco, both served with cilantro and onion, plus extra onion on request. It was yum at first bite. The meat in both was juicy and well-seasoned, with that slow-cooked, tender texture that lets you know care went into the preparation. The shredded chicken was savory and comforting, while the steak had a rich, satisfying bite that held its own without needing anything extra.
What really stood out, though, were the toppings. The cilantro and onions tasted exceptionally fresh. Bright, crisp, and flavorful in a way that elevated the entire taco rather than just sitting on top of it. Simple ingredients, done right, always make the biggest impact.
The service was phenomenal and impressively quick, striking that perfect balance of attentive without feeling rushed. It made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming from start to finish.
The space itself added another layer to the experience. Colorful, vibrant, and filled with beautiful artwork that clearly reflects cultural pride. I adore a space rooted in identity, community, and belonging. You could feel that intention in the details.
And for those who like to sip while they dine, there’s a nicely stocked bar offering cold cocktails and beer, rounding out the experience whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a relaxed meal.
K-Tacos & More is at 10 Main St, Parkville, MO 64152.
