Photos: KC Current heat-delayed match against Orlando fizzles

Kc Current Vs Orlando Aug 17 25 56

Yesterday, Aug. 16 of 2025, the KC Current hosted Orlando Pride for a rematch between two teams that maintain one of the most bitter rivalries in all of the NWSL. Orlando has historically ruined a number of our major streaks and records, as well as a history of on-the-pitch punchy behavior.

Well… who could have foreseen that a 3 p.m. mid-August game in Kansas City would be too hot to make for a fun game? Much less… any game at all. The wet bulb globe temperature [a measurement of heat, wind speed, cloud cover, etc.] declared the stadium to be outside the limits of play, until after 6 p.m.

The action on the field, as workers continually took measurements, was this exciting:

The match itself showed the signs of two teams—and a crowd that were drained before this all began. The evening wound up a nil-nil tie, which did leave the Current scoreless at home for the first time ever, giving Orlando another streak-ender against us. Still. An intense match and a good time was had by all those who stuck it out.

Our photographer Tarik was there to capture the extended pre-game and the match itself.
