Life in KC is pretty delicious. In fact, there is often so much going on that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to try.

That’s where I come in.

I’ve curated this weekly list of events, openings, deals, and celebrations to keep you in-the-know. Cheers!

Something New

News Bites: Café Corazón launched a canned Nitro Cold Brew this week, made with beans roasted in-house, and available at all three locations. The Roasterie also released KC Kingdom Cold Brew, a new canned coffee with a red and gold design. And speaking of design, two independent eateries known for a strong brand identity have launched new merch. Varsity Club is taking preorders for a custom futbol kit, and Sweet EMOtion has a full merch line that blends Chappell Roan with millennial alt kid.

Opening

Go Chew: After closing for a remodel, Raytown’s Go Chew Korean burger and sandwich restaurant has reopened. Now, Go Chew is open six days a week (closed Mondays), and they have added additional indoor seating and daily specials.

August 15

Ethnic Enrichment Festival: The 46th annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival convenes at Swope Park Friday through Sunday. The event aims to unite Kansas City through global cuisine, music, performances, education, and more. Entry tickets are $5, with options for purchasing food, drink, and goods inside. The family-friendly festival is packed with performances on stage, kids’ activities, and more, representing 60 cultural organizations and communities.

Orange by Devoured: Jhy Coulter’s pizza place, Orange by Devoured, is celebrating one year in Martini Corner. From 12 – 10 p.m., the restaurant is celebrating with free tapas, discounted pizzas, $8.15 pizza and cocktail deals, a DJ, and a special edition pizza.

The Pitch Margarita Experience: I’m stoked for another night of rubbin’ elbows with our fabulous Pitch community at Margarita Experience! The Guild could not be a more lovely setting for this, and I really hope you got in on those Don Julio Lounge tickets before they sold out… because that second room (formerly Paradise Garden Club) is gorgeous and offers some much-appreciated breathing room. But nevertheless, any ticket should yield a good time if you’re in the headspace for sampling, dancing, and chatting. See you there!

August 16

Chingu: Yes, you read that correctly. Chingu, the recently shuttered Korean restaurant, will be popping up at Chingu Coffee in the West Plaza neighborhood. On both Saturday and Sunday, Chingu will be donating the profits of Kimchi Fried Rice Bowl sales to Meg Evans, co-owner of Mean Mule, who recently lost her husband in an accident. Rice bowls and pork belly burritos will begin around 11 a.m., but starting at 7 a.m., they’ll offer Korean steak and egg burritos. If it goes well for them, be on the lookout for more pop-ups like this!

816 Day: Celebrations are happening around Kansas City for 816 Day. Boulevard Tours & Rec is giving away a keepsake tasting glass for tours. J. Rieger & Co. is throwing a day-long celebration, offering everything from a kids’ corner to a run club, and dog activities to flash tattoos. Vine Street Brewing has discounted beer flights for $8.16 all day.

August 17

Loretta Jean’s: There’s a new pop-up snack bar in town, and for their third event, they’re headed to The Museum of Kansas City. Starting at 12 p.m. in the Café at 3218 space, Loretta Jean’s will offer an open-faced pot roast sandwich, birthday sprinkle pancakes, watermelon limeade with strawberry thyme syrup, and honey peach tea… making for a satisfying and refreshing stop in the historic northeast neighborhood!

Plan Ahead

T’ähä Mexican Kitchen: Calling all teachers and school staff! T’ähä on the Plaza wants to help ease you into the school year with a discounted night out. From August 18-24, T’ähä is offering teachers 50% off your meal with a valid school ID.

Lula Southern Cookhouse: Lula is leaning into southern luxe on August 19 with a fried chicken and caviar dinner. In partnership with James B. Beam Distilling Co., this six-course dinner will feature pairings of bourbon and whiskey drinks. Tickets are $90.
