Lunar New Year Gala lights up Feb. 1 via KC Chinese American Association
Since 2014, the Kansas City Chinese American Association (KCCAA) has annually hosted its Chinese New Year Gala to celebrate the turn of the Lunar New Year. This year’s gala will be held on February 1, 2025, and will celebrate the Year of the Snake.
The KCCAA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cultural diversity and community engagement in the Kansas City area. Traditionally, the gala has been a vibrant celebration featuring performances, heartwarming stories, and cultural displays. Through this annual event, the KCCAA promises to showcase the richness of Chinese culture and how it blends with American life.
This year’s gala will showcase traditional dances to modern musical acts and feature a variety of performances that aim to highlight the depth and diversity of Chinese arts. Previous galas showcased acrobatics, Peking opera, ballet, chorus, folk dance, and other performances. It will also feature engaging exhibits that provide insight into Chinese traditions and heritage and opportunities to connect with artists, community leaders, and attendees, and strive to foster a spirit of unity and cultural appreciation.
The gala is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Yardley Hall, Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd, Overland Park, Kansas.
Adults: $15; students: $10; groups of 10 or more: $10; Lap Children (age 0-2): Free, but ticket required.
