Earlier this month, I slipped away to an agave oasis in the heart of Kansas City at Oh Hey, Agave!, a unique event hosted by Rose Productions.

Held at No Vacancy Guesthouse and Gathering Place, this intimate soirée was all about tequila, mezcal, and community. The event offered a chance to taste over 20 different agave spirits, enjoy delicious food, and connect with industry professionals, all while benefiting The Tequila Interchange Project.

As soon as I walked into the venue, I was immediately welcomed into an immersive world of agave. The $80 ticket not only granted access to a stellar collection of tastings but also came with a Glencairn glass, two cocktail tickets, small bites from Yoli Tortilleria, desserts and coffee from Café Corazón, and a raffle ticket—plus a takeaway bag with a ready-to-drink cocktail to savor later. It was an abundance of treats that had me feeling like I was truly getting the full agave experience.

Over the course of the evening, I had the chance to mingle with fellow tequila enthusiasts and became fast friends with many of the other guests. Walking through the hotel and exploring the various tastings, I learned about agave, tequila, and mezcal, sipping my way through an impressive lineup of brands. Among the standout brands were Codigo, Del Maguey, Herradura, LALO, ElVelo, Lagrimas, Hornitos, El Tesoro, and Mezcal Amarás.

While I’m not typically a silver tequila kind of person, I quickly found myself obsessed with LALO. The smoothness and complexity of this tequila made it an immediate favorite of mine—an unforgettable moment of discovery during the night.

But what truly set this event apart was the passion behind it. I had the opportunity to chat with Erica Schulte, the owner of Rose Productions and the mastermind behind Oh Hey, Agave!. Schulte shared that she wanted to create a tasting experience that was outside the box—something different from the usual whiskey or bourbon tastings. She dreamed of curating an agave-focused event that would challenge guests’ perceptions and open them up to new flavors, and that’s exactly what she did.

Schulte’s years of experience in the beverage industry and the relationships she’s built over time were evident in every aspect of the event. From the carefully selected agave brands to the cozy atmosphere and seamless execution, it was clear that Schulte had created something truly special. The feedback from guests was overwhelmingly positive, and Schulte shared her excitement about hosting similar experiences in the future—getting people out of their tasting comfort zones and into a space that was all about vibing with agave.

To top it all off, local vendor Sandlot Goods had a pop-up shop with an assortment of locally made vintage-style hats, leather goods, accessories, and more—perfect for anyone looking to do some holiday shopping while supporting local artisans.

Oh Hey, Agave! was more than just a tequila tasting—it was a celebration of agave culture, community, and new experiences. From the thoughtful tastings to the vibrant energy in the room, it was an event that brought people together in a way only agave spirits can. I left feeling connected to the people, the brands, and the passion behind it all, and I can’t wait to see what Schulte has in store for future events.
