BRGR’s Oktoberfest serves up specialty German cuisine, beer, and… milkshakes
BRGR Kitchen + Bar has kicked off its Oktoberfest event, offering a diverse menu of traditional German food. The casual restaurant is tucked away in the quiet suburbs of Prairie Village, a stark contrast to its bustling counterpart in the Power & Light District.
I recently visited to sample some of their popular menu items, curious to see if they lived up to the buzz and to see about their Oktoberfest menu.
I started off with the Steakhouse Wagyu burger ($17). I asked for the burger medium and they brought it back a little more done than I liked. The burger had white cheddar cheese, mushrooms, garlic and herb aioli, and arugula. I’m not usually a fan of mushrooms but I really liked the way they cooked them. The cheddar cheese sauce really tied the burger together and gave me that cheese fix I’m always looking for. The burger was also a bit greasy, especially on the bottom of the bun.
The Mac and cheese ($9) was good and I liked that it wasn’t overly seasoned and the noodles weren’t mushy. Out of everything I tried the mac and cheese ranked at the top. The little parmesan crust garnished on top was also a good touch.
I then tried the Bavarian pretzel ($11) with creamy beer cheese and spicy brown mustard. The mustard immediately put me off because the spice wasn’t really my thing. I enjoyed the beer and cheese and thought it paired better. The cheese was so good I wouldn’t mind having a gallon jar of it delivered to my house.
I finished off with a caramel shake ($5.95) because I always have to have something sweet after I eat. I really liked the quantity of whipped cream it came adorned with because, as a shake fanatic, I noticed some people are really stingy with it. This shake wasn’t too sweet and was just the right amount of a sugar rush.
The Oktoberfest menu runs through Oct. 23, 2024.
