Tech N9ne
The day after Thanksgiving, Tech N9ne released Strangeulation Vol. II. It’s the rap mogul’s 16th studio album, and it features guest spots from several of Tech’s Strange Music signees, including Krizz Kaliko, Ces Cru, Murs and Mayday. In its first week, Strangeulation Vol. II moved more than 24,000 units — not bad for the king of the underground. (Tech is still largely unrepresented on the radio.) We imagine a different kind of holiday cheer will be spread during Saturday’s “Tech the Halls” show.

Saturday, December 12, the Midland (1228 Main, 816-283-9921)

Crystal Gayle

There’s a theater in Crystal Gayle’s hometown of Wabash, Indiana, named for the singer. Such an illustrious status is something we could all hope to achieve in our lifetimes if only we were blessed with the sun-kissed pipes of the Grammy Award-winning singer best known for the 1977 hit “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” Talent is in the bloodline: The 64-year-old is the younger sister of the legendary Loretta Lynn. Expect a hit-heavy, comfortable and nostalgic set Saturday.

Saturday, December 12, Ameristar Casino (3200 North Ameristar Drive, 816-414-7000)

Claire & the Classical Revolution

If you haven’t been lucky enough to see a performance by Claire & the Crowded Stage, here’s what to expect: Upward of 10 instrumentalists fighting for a piece of whatever stage the group has taken over to create a surprisingly mellifluous sound. It’s a joyful experience and a slightly less serious endeavor than frontwoman Claire Adams’ other project (as the bassist in blues-rock ensemble Katy Guillen and the Girls). Adams debuts a new group Saturday: Claire & the Classical Revolution, featuring the chamber group Classical Revolution KC, helmed by siblings Nick and Alyssa Bell. The partnership makes for a stunning new sound — one you can experience at this release party for CCR’s debut 7-inch, “In the Blue.”

Saturday, December 12, Buffalo Room (817 Westport Road, 816-931-1986)

Tab Benoit

The weather is getting colder, so you might as well bring some heat to your life however you can get it. If that means with smoking guitar riffs, so be it. Louisiana guitarist Tab Benoit is back in town, and there’s no better venue than Knuckleheads Saloon for his particular brand of swampy blues guitar and New Orleans-inspired jam. Benoit has a long list of albums and accolades — including several Blues Music Awards — so you’re guaranteed a long, steamy night in the bayou.

Saturday, December 12, Knuckleheads Saloon (2715 Rochester, 816-483-1456)
