The morning after 16 year old Ralph Yarl returned home from the hospital, his fellow students took the street.

Tuesday morning, the student body of Staley High School (along with staff) took circling the campus in a “unity walk” to show support for their friend, and to protest the violence that has occurred here.

Yarl, a Black 16-year-old, was shot twice by a white homeowner on April 13 after he mistakenly went to the wrong home to pick up his two younger brothers. The story has gained national and international attention and become a political flashpoint.

Most of the 2000-person student body was in attendance, according to officials.

The Black Rainbow organization in attendance lead some chants of “No Justice, No Draft!” Yarl’s classmates chanted.”We love you Ralph!” and “Justice for Ralph!” as they circled the campus.

Mayor Quinton Lucas and Lee Merritt were in attendance, and many state legislators made the trek from Jeff City for the press conference.

Our photographer Jim Nimmo was there to document the events and reactions from the public.
