Need Valentine’s Day ideas? We’ve got you covered

Can you smell that? The sticky-sweet scent of gooey romance, cheesy dinner dates, and cards that cost, like, seven dollars? It’s nearly Valentine’s Day. Though some of us at The Pitch are a little heartless, not all of us are. Here’s a list of events that we suspect capable of melting our cold, bitter hearts — and maybe yours.
Early celebrations to get you in the mood
February 8-12
Start the pre-V-Day weekend with the interactive Museum of Good Vibes, which pops up at Westport Event Space February 8-14. The Lawrence museum has installations with confetti, streamers, and a ball pit to dive into. On Saturday, February 9, Strawberry Swing is popping up at Parlor from 11 am – 7 pm with 20 makers, on-the-spot poetry, and DIY cards and floral bouquets. And starting on February 8, Hurts Donuts has Cupid Deliveries (which you have to watch here). What better way to say “I dig you” than having a stranger in a diaper delivering donuts to someone you care about?

Galentine’s Day ideas
February 13-14
You don’t have to be single to get in on this fictional holiday (founded by Leslie Knope in a 2010 episode of Parks and Recreation), which is now very much a real-world thing. Starting Saturday, February 9, check out Galentine’s Day: A Women Led Marketplace at The Wild Way’s new winter warehouse location, which features nine female local makers, including MADI Apparel, Lost & Found Design, and Folkville. On February 13, American Daughters and the Homeless Period Project are throwing a Bloody Galentine’s Day Party at Monarch Coffee, too, where you can make your own Galentine and help pack menstrual hygiene products for those in need. End the night with Hambingo at Hamburger Mary’s (where you can probably get away with bringing the guys along) and raise money for Great Plains SPCA.

Valentine’s Day ideas that aren’t a bore
February 14-16
A few date ideas: Get drinks from Wine is My Valentine at KC Wineworks or the Thank U, Next cocktail pop-up at Crows Coffee in Waldo. Watch My Bloody Valentine at Screenland at Tapcade or dance at The Church Of Lazlo’s E.D. Party with FIDLAR at The Truman. For something more traditional, watch Casablanca in Concert with live orchestra accompaniment at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts (it’s playing through Saturday, February 16). Or check in at The Fontaine’s Art and Love night — which includes champagne, a round-trip Tesla ride to Art Experience painting class, and overnight accommodations — if you want to pull out all the stops.
For V-Day dinners, check back next week. We’ll have a full list for you then.
