Westport security officer on leave following accusations of racism
On Monday afternoon, a Buzzard Beach bartender took to Facebook to share an experience he had while working at the Westport tavern last week.
It starts with a Westport security officer named Mike Dargy stopping into Buzzard and ordering a “Trayvon Martini,” and it gets worse from there:
The Westport Regional Business League subcontracts with a security management company called Chesley Brown International for public safety. CBI in turn hires officers such as Dargy to patrol the area.
A LinkedIn search of Dargy indicates he is also employed by the Olathe Police Department. Update: A spokesman with the Olathe Police Department says Dargy hasn’t been employed by OPD since 2016.
The WRBL appears to be taking the accusations against Dargy seriously.
“The allegation is currently under investigation by the security company, which has already put the officer in question on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” Kim Kimbrough, executive director of the WRBL, tells The Pitch. “If true, it is reprehensible; and we will have zero tolerance for that type of behavior in this welcoming district.”
At the time of this writing (10 p.m. on Monday evening), the post has been shared more than 480 times.
