Exclusive: Listen to the premiere of Berwanger’s ‘Broken Moon’

Since 2013, Josh Berwanger has released two full-length albums — Strange Stains and Exorcism Rock — along with the Demonios EP and three singles. So why slow down now?

On Halloween, he’s releasing his third LP, The Star Invaders. Berwanger has been part of two other notable local acts, the Anniversary and the Only Children, which bands released just two albums apiece. A third full-length marks something of a milestone for for the musician, then.

Recorded in Norman, Oklahoma, with members of Broncho, Limbeck and the Flaming Lips, along with Eva Gardner of the Mars Volta and Sam Cohen, The Star Invaders marks a more introspective, quiet turn for the musician. Whereas Exorcism Rock and the A-side of Demonios were blasts of pure power pop, this new album nods more to the flip side of Demonios, though less acoustic and more psychedelic.

And now you can get a taste for yourself: Download the dreamy, desert landscape sounds of “Broken Moon” below. It’s a sweeping cut that brings the big melodies of Berwanger’s previous offerings, while also suggesting the dark, Morricone-inspired sounds of Federale or Spindrift. Get your mind melted.

The Star Invaders is available in several formats, including deluxe vinyl, from Pledgemusic or on basic black wax from Good Land Records.
