There’s a sales tax holiday in Kansas City, Missouri, this weekend

It’s back-to-school season, which in Missouri nowadays means one weekend when the state waives sales tax on certain purchases. This year’s sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. this Friday, August 4, and runs through Sunday, August 6.

KCMO will also not be charging sales tax this weekend, meaning you can save about 8 percent on purchases if you’re buying in the city proper. You do not have to be a resident of Missouri or a student to take advantage of this deal, but not every purchase qualifies.

Items exempt from sales tax this weekend, per the city:

Articles of clothing, shoes and cloth or other materials used to make school uniforms or other school clothing with a taxable value of $100 or less
