Your week in food and drink events: March 20-26

For better or worse (for our waistlines), we can’t get enough of the specialty beer and wine dinners, cooking classes and other food-related events taking place throughout town every week.  And with The Pitch going monthly, we want to make sure that we aren’t leaving you out of the loop as our format adapts. Check back here each Monday for event listings, and get your phone ready to call in your reservations.

Monday, March 20

Start the week off big with a trip to Summit Hickory Pit BBQ (1012 Southeast Blue Pkwy, Lee’s Summit) for a paired dinner with Boulevard Brewing Company. This four-course dinner, featuring burnt ends (with Pale Ale), smoked wings (with Unfiltered Wheat), pork chops (with Tank 7) and dessert (Early Riser Coffee Porter), is designed to appeal to Boulevard-loving carnivores. It’s also inexpensive, at $35 a person. Call 816-246-4434 for reservations.

Tuesday, March 21

Lawrence’s Port Fonda (900 New Hampshire Street) sets up a Don Amado mezcal dinner tonight. Hosted by Adam Clary, of Standard Beverage distributors, the coursed meal features enough of the smoky Mexican spirit to make you wish you didn’t have to go to work tomorrow. The dinner is $45 a person or $75 a couple. Call 785-856-2535 with questions and to make reservations.

Wednesday, March 22

Louie’s Wine Dive (7100 Wornall Road) is hosting a four-course “tour of Italy” dinner featuring wines imported by the Sorting Table, which selects its wines by looking for farmers who utilize organic or biodynamic practices, and live on the land they farm. The dinner is $50 not including tax or gratuity; call 816-569-5097 for reservations.

Thursday, March 23

For those who love New Belgium’s beers, tonight’s dinner at Smokin’ Guns BBQ (1218 Swift Avenue, North Kansas City) should be appealing. Enjoy five of New Belgium’s beers and four courses, including beer-cheese dip, smoked meatballs, chicken stew and Belgian bread pudding. The dinner is $30 for individuals or $50 for couples, exclusive of tax or gratuity. Call 816-221-2535 for reservations.

For a more educational affair, head to the Boulevard Rec Center tonight from 5:30 to 7 for “Study Hall,” the third in this series. Tonight’s event features a discussion about women in beer, so one can, according to the brewery, “learn about the fine female influence on fermentation through the ages.” A flight of beer is offered with the program. Tickets are available for $20 here.

Saturday, March 25

Taste and learn how to make a handful of classic cocktails today at Julep (4141 Pennsylvania Avenue). Instruction from Julep’s bartenders will be available, as will snacks from chef Charles Barr. Tickets are $50, and include tax and tip. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.

Sunday, March 26

Ça Va (4149 Pennsylvania Avenue) is hosting chef Carlos Falcon of the much-celebrated Mexican seafood restaurant Jarocho Pescados y Mariscos for tonight’s installment of “Special Club,” a series of dinners featuring talent from all over Kansas City. The dinner includes four courses, with wine pairings, for $85, exclusive of tax or gratuity. The event is sold out, but wait list spots are available by emailing caitlin@cavakc.com.
