Kansas City native Casi Joy seemed to dazzle the judges on The Voice

Season 12 of The Voice premiered this week. The third episode, which aired last night airs Thursday (the clip below is a preview) featured a performance of the old Bill Mack country song “Blue,” made famous in 1996 by a teenage Leann Rimes. On Wednesday, a 26-year-old woman named Casi Joy channeled Rimes and sang the track for the four Voice “coaches”: Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys. They all loved it. Levine said he would “literally try and leap over the moon and back” to be her coach.

Joy hails from the Kansas City area, though she moved to Nashville in 2015. She’s a former athlete who played soccer at Smithville High School and ran track while attending Park University. She’s also sung the national anthem at several local sporting events, including Chiefs, Royals, and Sporting games, according to her website

Joy’s preview in the Voice episode was crafted as a cliffhanger. Viewers will have to tune in Thursday to see who Joy picks as her coach. The show airs on NBC at 7 p.m.
