Kate Hackman to step down as artistic director of Charlotte Street Foundation this summer

  • Hackman will leave CSF after June.

Kate Hackman, head “art lady” at the Charlotte Street Foundation for the past 10 years – she initially served as co-director and recently as artistic director – announced today that she will leave the local arts organization in July.

Hackman follows David Hughes, the founder of Charlotte Street Foundation, who stepped down as co-director last year. Hughes (who still serves an emeritus role with CSF) was succeeded by Julie Gordon Dalgleish, who took over as executive director last fall.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done over the past decade, and the time seems right for me to move on,”
Hackman says in a press release. “Charlotte Street is making a difference in the lives of Kansas City artists and in the community’s appreciation for their valuable role. The upcoming program assessment, which is one of our regular ‘check-ins’ with artists, will help us identify ways to further strengthen the Foundation’s programs after my departure. I have great confidence in Julie and in the Foundation’s strong board of directors to lead the organization forward.”

Charlotte Street will begin a search for Hackman’s replacement later this year. Hackman says her immediate plans post-June are to rest up and travel for a bit, then look for new career opportunities. Best of luck to Hackman, and to Charlotte Street in finding a worthy successor.
