Kelly Osbourne
It’s doubtful that Kelly Osbourne‘s debut, Shut Up, will ever be designated a record for the ages. That said, there are a few ways to look at Shut Up. It could be (or, well, it is) a quick cash-in that wouldn’t have been made if Kelly’s dad were not the almighty Prince of Darkness or someone else suitably famous. She’s a passable-at-best vocalist, and she closes the album proper with a train wreck of a ballad called “More Than Life Itself,” as in I love you more than. Then again, “Right Here” is a punky power-pop gem, and Kelly brings a driving urgency to her hidden cover of “Papa Don’t Preach.” Once Osbourne learns to channel her inner/outer bitch, ‘tude and unique persona into something all her own, she could produce a killer record. In the meantime, her live performance should prove as absorbingly entertaining and profanity-packed as the reality show that bears her surname.
