Keller Williams

Fredericksburg, Virginia, native Keller Williams has carved out a wide and comfortable niche for himself among the ravenously faithful jam-rock set over the past ten years, marrying the traditions of the singer/songwriter/guitarist with a liberal dose of modern technology. By combining loop effects with an impressive capacity for technical fireworks and a jester’s sense of daring experimentalism, Williams already has placed himself well ahead of the curve of many of his fellow troubadours. His latest effort, Dance, is more reminiscent echo than all-out original effort. It’s a playful dismantling and reconstruction of his most recent studio release, Laugh, that pushes the envelope even for Williams’ own eclectic sensibilities. Few of the tracks forge a coherent link to their origins, with most abandoning the conventional notions of the studio remix by becoming completely original compositions that only happen to borrow their sonic building blocks from prior work. Instead, they reveal the endless avenues of possibilities that Williams is willing to explore at any given moment. Though the studio ultimately enabled Dance to become a reality, it’s important to note that these twists and turns represent only a fraction of the daring Williams shares with his audiences in a live setting.
