Looking Ahead To The Thanksgiving Day Football Games

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest holidays of the year that is built on tradition with family, turkey, parades and most of all football. From high school to college to the pro s you can guarantee that there will be some great Thanksgiving Day games between traditional rivals. One of the classic Thanksgiving games was always the Texas – Texas A&M series that dates all the way back to the 1800’s. These two teams have combined for some incredible games in this series but that all ended when Texas A&M left the Big XII Conference for greener pastures in the SEC.

Without their annual game with Texas the Texas A&M Aggies rekindled a rivalry with LSU whom they will now begin playing on Thanksgiving starting this season while the Longhorns now play TCU. In 2014 Texas A&M football tickets average $178 for the season but for their Thanksgiving game against LSU football tickets are up by 112% for an average price of $377 per ticket.

This is just one of the rivalry games scheduled for Turkey Day as the NFL will see the Detroit Lions take on the Chicago Bears for an average price of $247 per ticket. The most famous for Thanksgiving Day games are none other than “America’s team” the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have scheduled a game for the fourth Thursday in November since 1966 and this year will host the Philadelphia Eagles as Cowboys tickets average $295 with a get-in price of $72. Yet the most expensive game of the day, and the NFL season for that matter, is the final game to kick off that day between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. These teams are new to playing on Thanksgiving but that hasn’t stopped fans from driving up ticket prices between these bitter opponents to a staggering average of $587 with the cheapest get-in ticket going for a pricy $251.

It almost feels like the entire state of Texas will be playing football on Turkey Day with Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and the Dallas Cowboys all in action. However there is one team other team from the Lone Star State who are not playing on Thanksgiving, the Houston Texans. Instead playing three days later on Sunday at home against the Tennessee Titans where Texans tickets are averaging $228 with a get-in of $47. With friends, family and a stacked football schedule Thanksgiving promises to be one of the best days of the year.
