The Last Bandoleros, last night at the Lied Center (photos)

The Last Bandoleros

The Lied Center

Friday, April 19

If you wanted to know what to expect from the Last Bandoleros in concert, the band’s pre-show playlist at the Lied Center Friday night — featuring Willie Nelson’s version of “Pancho & Lefty,” along with the Jerry Jeff Walker classic “Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother” — did a fine job of setting the tone for the Tejano-flavored red dirt country that followed .

While the crowd might’ve been sparse, it made up for the lack of numbers with a huge amount of enthusiasm. The Lied’s orchestra pit was set aside as a dance floor right in front of the stage, and by the time the band had finished its first number, it was packed. As event sponsor James Otten said at the night’s outset, we were all only renting our seats “for a short period of time” — but this crowd was helpless to resist the call to boogie.
