Failure and Swervedriver, last night at Liberty Hall (photos, setlists)

Failure / Swervedriver

Liberty Hall

Friday, April 12

The dream of ’90s shoegaze indie pop was alive and well at Lawrence’s Liberty Hall Friday night. Big, droning chords, reverb, and swirling lights enveloped the venue for hours during full sets from Failure and Swervedriver. Failure’s set relied a little more on melody than sheer volume; Swervedriver was crushingly loud. Openers No Win played to maybe 30 people half an hour after doors opened, but the band’s hooky power pop was well-received by the appreciative audience.
