Boulevard and Sporting Kansas City’s Championship Ale is out today

The Cauldron has a new brew. Boulevard Brewing Co. and Sporting Kansas City’s collaboration, Championship Ale, is in liquor stores today.

The limited-release Saison-style ale, part of Boulevard’s Smokestack Series, is a tribute to Sporting’s MLS Cup victory last year. Boulevard is putting out 2,000 cases of 750 ml bottles of Championship Ale throughout the greater KC area, with a few bottles making it to Lawrence.

SKC Championship Ale features late hopping with a German hop called Mandarina Bavaria said to have tangerine and citrus flavors. Boulevard’s director of marketing Jeremy Ragonese told The Pitch last month that Championship Ale reaches back to Boulevard’s original Saison recipe. (The ABV is 6.2 percent.)

The beer is only distributed in the larger bottle format, so it will not be available at Sporting Park.

We picked up a bottle this morning from Boulevard but haven’t been able to pop it open because work.
