Since the demise of the Monty Python troupe, Brothers Grimm director Terry Gilliam has spent his directorial career creating a world where the real and the surreal co-exist. Twenty years after Gilliam’s satirical take on the future in Brazil, Montreal’s the Arcade Fire is putting its own dreamy spin on the 1930s Ary Baroso-Ed Russel song that inspired the film’s title. First available only on the flip side of the Arcade Fire’s limited edition “Cold Wind” 7-inch, the track is now posted as a free MP3 on Purevol ume.com, along with in-studio performances from KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic of the impressive new song “Intervention” and a cover of the Magnetic Fields’ “Born on a Train.” While you wait for the download, we encourage you to fart in the general direction of the snobs who jumped off the Arcade Fire bandwagon as soon as the group became popular.
