The Iguanas

When they’re not getting down in the usual Delta blues-skronk style of New Orleans, the Iguanas mesh together their own synthesis of musical ideas, cultivated from a rich blend of blues, country, Latin, funk and rock. Banished from home by Hurricane Katrina, the band has found a new residence in Austin, Texas — and, of course, on America’s highways, touring its way through tough times. The Iguanas slithered onto the scene in 1989, founded by Rod Hodges (guitar, accordion) and Joe Cabral (organ, saxophone and bajo sexto), who share vocal duties. Their most recent album, Plastic Silver Nine Volt Heart, bounces from Morphine’s sax-blowing blues-rock territory on “Flame On” to the laid-back, rhythmic swells of “Machete Y Maiz.” KC blues purists and Latin-music fans should expect to bump into each other at this show in the East Bottoms.
